There’s no better conversation starter than a little local sporting knowledge. Swot up on your local baseball team, the Orix Buffaloes!
The ORIX Buffaloes [オリックス・バファローズ ] were formed in 2005 as a merger between the Orix Bluewaves and the Kintetsu Buffaloes. Playing in the Pacific League, the Buffaloes split their games between the Kobe Sports Park Baseball Stadium and the Osaka Dome.
Once a dominant force in Japanese baseball, the team has struggled since its merger, and has finished in the top half of the Pacific league only once from 2005 to 2013…a sad reality for a team that has produced some of the greats of modern Japanese baseball such as Hideo Nomo [野茂 英雄] and Ichiro Suzuki [鈴木 一朗 or more often just イチロー ].
The 2014 season has been a little better for the Orix, and at time of print they are a strong second place in the Pacific League.
If you want to go out and see a game, you can pick up an outfield ticket from around ¥1800. The ground is about 20 minutes by subway from Motomachi.
