“Demons out! Happiness in!”

Setsubun Day!

February 3rd is the day marking the last day of winter, even though it’s still freezing in reality! In Japan, we have a special event called Setsubun. People scatter roasted soybeans to drive demons away and bring happiness with saying “Demons out! Happiness in!”. This is called “Mame-maki”. After that we eat soybeans to the number of our age in the hope of good fortune.

In the morning class, some students made their original demon mask and experienced this Japanese custom!
